We at Tabula Rasa Retreat are delighted to announce our first ever 5-day sacred mushroom Elemental Self RE:Treat sacred mushroom for the coming of the new year at Quinta da Fe (February 24th to 28th, 2021). The event is impeccably timed, after a year which tried the strongest of us and laid a host of unexpected challenges and stresses before us. Our goal is to refresh minds, bodies, and spirits that have been sorely tested, to reunite with ancient traditions and medical ceremonies, and to reconnect with the four elements which underlie our natural world.
Our goal is to help participants experience a reconnection with their true selves, allowing them to re-emerge this Spring with a renewed sense of purpose. The retreat will include a host of activities, with a focus on holistic healing and spiritual growth. It was born from the collaborative visions of Alvaro de Ferranti, a co-owner and co-founder of Tabula Rasa Retreat, and Jessica Grotfeldt, a renowned expert in the field of psilocybin therapy. Alvaro brings expertise in entheogenic therapies, experience overseeing one of the world’s premier ibogaine treatment centers, and a focus on safe treatment, holistic therapy, and committed aftercare. Jessica is the founder of Luz Eterna Retreats and has studied sacred mushroom ceremonies extensively in North and South America. She has over 20 years of experience as a psychedelic guide and facilitator, and her work and expertise have been featured in numerous publications, including Vice Magazine and Michelle Janikian’s acclaimed book ““Your Psilocybin Companion: An Informative Easy-to-Use Guide to Understanding Magic Mushrooms.”
Healing With Psilocybin
Increasing numbers of individuals and governments are realizing that psilocybin is a powerful medicine which has incredible potential to treat addiction, depression, and a host of other physical and mental ailments. We believe that this substance has three types of benefits to those aiming to heal, which have deep ties to the botanical composition of the fungi: they compost, filter, and connect.
Composting means that they help us confront, break down, and move past toxic behaviors, emotions, and memories which are often the root causes of depression, addiction, and PTSD. Filtering means that they can clean harmful debris from our mental systems, allowing us to cease viewing our lives through the artificial filters of past trauma or addictive focuses; essentially they pull the wool from our eyes and let us observe the world anew. Fungi is a vital connection that links animals and plants to each other, an invisible network which transfers water and nutrients and allows the natural world to thrive. Psilocybin treatment is remarkable in that it can make us realise that we aren’t isolated and alone, but part of the vast tapestry of the universe. It’s easy to imagine that we are alone in a hostile world when we feel depressed or alienated. Psilocybin reminds us that we are an essential (if tiny) part of the social and natural worlds around us.
Why The Ceremonies?
Psilocybin has been at the heart of communal and shamanic ceremonies around the world for millennia. Ceremonies act as signposts in our lives, marking the dawn of adulthood, the changing of seasons, and the beginnings and ends of life. Traditionally psilocybin ceremonies were led by a trusted, respected member of a community who ensured that the experience was meaningful, beautiful, and most importantly, safe. The leader would have a deep understanding of the community they served, and the substance they administered. While psilocybin can be beneficial in itself, the ceremony helps us set intentions, reinforces the lessons we learn and helps us to integrate the insights we gain into our everyday life, to maximize therapeutic and spiritual benefits as we move forward.
What Is The Format For The Elemental Self RE:Treat?
Our schedule is based on the four elements, and each day is given the character of either water, air, fire, and earth. We integrate fasting for purification, as well as holistic elements including yoga, acupuncture, and breathwork, which are chosen for their compatibility with the themes and lessons of each day. Two psilocybin ceremonies are held on the first and third days of the retreat, with intention setting workshops occurring beforehand, and periods of reflection following the psychedelic experience. Based on our expertise, we feel that this format will allow our guests to maximize the benefits of their treatment.
Is This Journey For You?
Psychedelic medicine is not for everyone, and before going on this journey you’ll need to reflect on whether you are ready to commit. In order to achieve meaningful benefits you’ll need to reflect on your goals in joining the ceremony, and how they can best be accomplished. You have to set expectations and prepare yourself, physically, mentally and emotionally. Reflection on the relationships and connections between body, mind, spirit, and emotions will allow you to absorb the lessons of the plant teacher and integrate them into your life post-treatment. Psychedelics shouldn’t be used alone or on a whim. Respecting the process, carefully selecting a setting, a ceremony leader, and taking a safe dose are fundamental to avoiding negative experiences and keeping yourself safe.
It is incredibly important that you cleanse your system of other drugs and intoxicants before setting off on the psilocybin journey. Mixing alcohol, antidepressants, or intoxicants can put stress on your heart, liver, and other organs, and also lead to negative thoughts and feelings during the ceremony. Following the fasting guidelines is also strongly recommended. While violating them may not be dangerous, purifying your system before receiving the medicine is hugely beneficial for this ceremony. If for whatever reason you can’t follow our guidelines, we’d recommend that you sit this one out.
