Oxycontin Addiction
Oxycontin Addiction
Oxycontin, a powerful opioid drug, is a prescription painkiller that is highly effective in reducing pain. However, due to its potential for abuse and addiction, it has become a major public health concern. The drug works by acting on the brain’s reward system, producing euphoria and pleasurable sensations which, in most cases, will lead to addiction. In addition to taking the pill orally, Oxycontin is often crushed, snorted, or injected, which increases the risk of overdose and death.
Owing to the fact that long-term use of Oxycontin can result in physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms, it can be extremely challenging for individuals to quit on their own. This can result in compulsive drug-seeking behavior, even when the consequences are adverse.
To treat Oxycontin addiction, a combination of medications, behavioral therapies, and support from family and friends is necessary. Long-acting opioids such as Subutex, Suboxone, or methadone can be used to prevent withdrawal symptoms and cravings, but this is rarely a solution, as it simply replaces one opiate for another slightly less harmful one.
As a short-acting opioid, Oxycontin is a suitable replacement for long-acting opioids such as Subutex or Suboxone before undergoing ibogaine treatment.
Patients who have been using Subutex or Suboxone for an extended period should switch to Oxycontin before admission to our center, ideally two to three weeks before. This is because these opioids can remain in the body for several weeks, making it necessary to flush them out before undergoing ibogaine treatment.
Before starting the program, patients are advised to reduce their daily Oxycontin intake to no more than 120mg. This is followed by a 6 or 10-day program for those who have used Oxycontin for a shorter period. However, for those who have used it for a longer time or mixed it with substances like methadone or Suboxone, longer stays are available at our center (enquire for further details).
At Tabula Rasa Retreat, our medical and counseling team is available to provide support to help you break free from Oxycontin addiction and start a new life filled with hope and positivity. Overcoming Oxycontin addiction is a challenging goal, but it is one worth striving for, and we are here to help make it possible.
