Ibogaine is a psychoactive alkaloid extracted directly from the root bark of the Tabernanthe Iboga shrub found in West Central Africa. Ibogaine Treatment as a Cure-All Guarantee

Ibogaine is not a magic pill, a magic bullet, or a cure-all, it is also NOT snake oil. Ibogaine’s effects on ameliorating withdrawal symptoms are well researched and documented. An ibogaine treatment does notjust make an addict change, nor does it cure or eradicate “cravings.” It is an inside job that takes courage, intention, and hard work afterwards.

Withdrawal symptoms are caused by the brain being addicted to a drug, this is most prevalent with opiates such as Heroin, Opium, Oxycontin, Suboxone, Methadone and Buprenorphine. When the drugs are removed from the system, the brain needs to start healing. During this time withdrawal symptoms such as cold and hot sweats, and flu-like symptoms are normal and can be very challenging to overcome.

Ibogaine is effective at eliminating the majority, if not all, of the withdrawal symptoms. BUT please note that every experience is different and be wary of providers that say you will have ZERO withdrawals as this really is not the case.

Drug cravings however are very different from withdrawal symptoms. Cravings often come from the HALT acronym (Hungry Angry Lonely Tired) and one wishing to change theiroften-uncomfortable mental state. Ibogaine will not completely eliminate cravings. It will not make an addict forget what it is like to get stoned and high. It will not ensure that an addict changes their behavior. It won’t lead you to new social circles, nor will it force you to do the important things required for a completely successful recovery. These have to come from careful planning…

Fail to plan, plan to fail!

The success rates from addiction treatment with Ibogaine is high; however, do not expect more from Ibogaine than it can offer—this only leads to disappointment.

It must be made clear however, that time spent after the Ibogaine treatment, doing the necessary “work,” attending aftercare, getting involved with local SMART, NA, or AA meetings, re-thinking ‘people, places and things’ will exponentially help increase the chances of success after treatment many fold.

Ibogaine Treatment Cures Methadone or Suboxone Addiction

Some clinics erroneously and dishonestly claim that Ibogaine can treat Long-acting opiates such as Methadone, Buprenorphine and Suboxone addiction. This is simply a fallacy. The medications must be stopped for a pre-determined period of time. Often clients taper down their consumptions and switch over to short acting opiates such as MST (Morphine sulphate).Without this switch you will feel like you are healed after your ibogaine treatment; and you will go straight back into full withdrawal when you return home. BE AWARE.

Methadone, Buprenorphine and Suboxone are what are known as opiate blockers. This means they bind and block to the opiate receptors. Ibogaine works on these receptors and helps them to stop ‘rattling’. When present, the long-acting opiates prevent the Ibogaine from repairing and resetting the damaged receptors. It can take 3 to 6 weeks, and in some cases even longer, for these opiate blockers to leave the system. Several factors such as metabolism, dosage, and length of use are important considerations. With the knowledge of these factors, the medical team at Tabula Rasa Retreat will make recommendations on how long you should be switched over for before undertaking ibogaine treatment. On many occasions clients don’t like what they need to hear, rather than what they want to hear… we tell it like it is.

It must be noted that Ibogaine also works on several other receptors. Many Methadone, Buprenorphine or Suboxone addicts will go through a psychotherapeutic experience. It has been noted that they may actually even feel better for a week or two. However, once the effects of the Ibogaine metabolite noribogaine wears off, slowly, the harsh reality of withdrawal symptoms caused by Methadone, Buprenorphine or Suboxone use re surface. This can be devastating.

The longer a Methadone, Buprenorphine or Suboxone user can stay off of these long acting opiates before taking Ibogaine, the better.

We also like to recommend to clients that they switch over to a short acting opiate, if possible, if they have been using Fentanyl and Oxy’s (OxyContin), or consuming dirty heroin for a period of a week. It just means you will have an easier detox and less harsh withdrawals.

Ibogaine Treats All Diseases

Some centers claim that Ibogaine is a cure-all and that it can treat and encyclopedia of diseases. Ibogaine can cure ‘acne’- seriously? These snake oil salesmen prey off desperate people looking to cure “modern day ailments and diseases” that science has not been able to address effectively. This simply isn’t true. Although Ibogaine can have positive effects on some mental health issues, it cannot always manage them effectively. Please check out our exclusion criteria as in some instances, when it comes to mental health, Ibogaine also can make problems worse.

Have you been sold a Free Airfare, be aware, this could be a Trap

Some clinics offer free airfares for patients, and this may well be a genuine helpful gesture. However, be aware, that this is often a sinister marketing tool that clinics use to charge higher costs. We have often heard of clinics that offer you a free one-way airfare, and then they charge you from 2,000 to 5,000 USD more for it.

From the USA to Mexico, a one-way plane ticket typically amounts to $200 to $500 US dollars. We recommend that you take care of your own airfares and logistics.

This is an Ibogaine treatment cost that is simply unnecessary. Spend your money on essential aftercare. Be careful not to spend extra money on Ibogaine treatment for reasons that simply will not give you any benefits. Again, do your due diligence, do your research.

Shamanic Ibogaine Retreats vs. Medical Ibogaine Treatment Centers

Shamanic (also known as shamanistic) or neo-Bwiti Iboga retreats do not offer clinical settings and they do not use the isolated Ibogaine molecule (PTA, HCL). Iboga (native to West Central Africa) is different from Ibogaine. Iboga root bark is the raw plant medicine. Iboga contains a several alkaloids, including Ibogaine.

Shamanic retreats can be an excellent experience for non-addicts, a place for brotherhood and sisterhood. They are simply not equipped to deal with this safely and effectively.

For those suffering from depression, PTSD, anxiety, fear or other types of ailments looking into an Iboga retreat, shamanic style option may be a better choice. However, be aware, many suffering from these issues may not appreciate basic accommodation, simple facilities, the ‘creepy crawlies’ from the great outdoors etc. Ibogaine treatment at a proper equipped and staffed center is very different.

If addiction treatment is your goal, then a medically and psychospiritual centered Ibogaine center may be more productive and beneficial for you. This will greatly reduce the risk of the potentiallydangerous side effects from Iboga or Ibogaine.
