REBALANCING BODYWORK

Introduction
At Tabula Rasa Retreat we believe the body has a profound need for being touched in a respectful, conscious manner. Touch therefore plays an important part in the process of recovery and may also help in releasing past experiences and integrating new attitudes and behavioural patterns.

During Rebalancing bodywork, the physical body will be touched in a gentle, meditative way. It is a combination of deep and soft connective tissue manipulation, joint release, energy and breath work, body reading, body awareness training and a loving, conscious touch.

The body may release rigidities held in the muscles, energy is set free. At the same time old and unconscious emotional and mental attitudes and patterns can come into our awareness. This helps you to a better understanding of yourself and of your hidden potentials.

History
Rebalancing was developed in the late seventies in the Osho Commune in Pune, India. Many therapists from different backgrounds (Rolfing, Neo Reichian Bodywork, Tragering, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais, etc) were at that time ready for a new holistic approach to bodywork. Under Osho’s guidance and personal feedback, Rebalancing was born. Rebalancing was a meeting of western scientific methodology combined with eastern meditative practice. The new orientation in this concept was that the therapist and the client both can benefit from a session, when presence, meditation and body awareness are integrated parts. That’s why the two aspects of technique and meditation have the same value in Rebalancing.

Bodywork in recovery
At Tabula Rasa Retreat we can see that conscious touch makes a huge difference in how you feel (about yourself) during your recovery time with us and beyond. There is a chance that you have been neglecting your body during your addicted lifetime. Rebalancing bodywork will help you to rebuild a healthy, non-judgemental relationship to your physical body through conscious, loving touch. This type of bodywork touches your whole being and therefore offers the possibility of healing and change on many levels.

You would be surprised what you discover about yourself by communicating through your body with your soul.

Benefits of rebalancing bodywork
Rebalancing bodywork is a body-oriented approach that leads to more self-awareness with benefits including:

Alleviating pain
Decreased muscle tension
Recover from repetitive stresses
Improve posture
builds a healthy relationship with chronic pain
builds a healthy, non-judgemental relationship to the self
Enhances self-awareness
Helps clear energy blocks & emotional trauma

What to expect?
Rebalancing bodywork takes place on a massage table. If you feel comfortable you may take off your clothing (except your underwear), laying down comfortably on the massage table. You will be asked to become aware of every touch and to keep consciously breathing throughout the treatment. In this way you and the facilitator will be on a journey together.

Curiosity is the word here. What do you feel? How do you feel? How is your breath? Do you like what you feel? Can you describe your experience? During a Rebalancing bodywork treatment, you will become more aware of the subtle sensations and feelings which arise in your body during a session and beyond. You will learn to locate feelings and emotions in the body and become more aware of your energetic body. After some sessions you will notice a deeper connection and understanding of your body and develop a non-judgemental attitude towards it.

Conclusion
Paying attention to the needs of the physical body is essential in a holistic treatment programme. Next to nutrition, touch is one of the basic needs of a human. At Tabula Rasa Retreat we believe that nourishing the body through conscious touch plays a vital role in your recovery.

As the body is often neglected and abused during addiction, it is necessary to start reversing this attitude and find a more loving, non-judgemental relationship towards it. From our experience it is more difficult to start abusing your body again, once you have established a more loving and caring relationship with it. Besides this, scientific research studies have found that conscious touch reduces anxiety, regulates and supports the immune function, alters the perception of pain and encourages general healing.
