Does ibogaine work for Cocaine? : A’s story | Tabula Rasa Retreat
Transcript – Does ibogaine work for Cocaine? : A’s story | Tabula Rasa Retreat
Q 00:15 How was life for you a few months ago?
I have a quite stressful work environment back home. I work 60 to 70 hours a week, so my stress and anxiety, I just couldn’t manage. I could manage to stay sober five, six months, but after, you know, when work and everything got to me, I would just relapse. So life for me before this was quite different.
Q 00:46 What were you addicted to?
I was addicted to cocaine, that’s about it. I used to drink and do coke. I used to do it on the weekends, you know, I used to go on a two, three day bender, then go back to work. So on and off, I think, for the last five to seven years.
Q 01:07 How did you hear about ibogaine?
A friend of mine actually, who was based out of New York, he sent me a link to this website and he said, you know, people from America are going to Mexico to do this treatment for Coke, and I know someone so, this is a clinic in Europe, you know, because South America for me is a bit far away. I live in UK half the year, and for me, Europe is easier. I’ve been to Portugal before, so I felt comfortable. I stumbled upon it on non-line.
Q 01:49 How was your experience arriving here?
Very good in the sense that Alvaro was in touch with me on the phone before I was coming. When I came, he had come to pick me up, you know, we drove from Lisbon Airport to Tabula Rasa, and I felt like I was at my own home because I was being cared for, by like a friend, or a family member essentially, so for me the experience arriving was quite good.
Q 02:25 How was your ibogaine experience?
I only remember bits and parts of it. I remember obviously before I was being administered Ibogaine. I was a bit scared a day before, but then, the team over there, and the doctor, and the support staff, essentially made me feel very comfortable. And the experience itself, I remember bits, it’s still coming back to me – it was actually surreal, I didn’t think I was in this world. The parts I remember, you know, I saw my future, I got answers to a lot of questions I had from before, which I didn’t know what to do, so the ibogaine answered those questions as well And it was quite intense, but, you know, during the whole ibogaine trip, I was, you know, being cared by, you know, the nurse, the doctors and being told that everything is fine, and overall I would rate my experience, very good, I just hope that I can recall more of it in the coming weeks to come.
Q 03:40 What are your changes of relapsing?
At the moment I’m in a very good state of mind. Compared, to me getting out of other rehabs, essentially, when I’ve gotten out of here I, you know, have been in Cascais for the last three days, I’ve been here by myself going out for dinner, you know, every night I don’t even have the slightest urge to pick up a drink or do a line. Essentially, so I think the chances of relapse is very low, but it I need to really, when I go back to Pakista. I need to change my routine and my environment, and I think that’s the key for me to not relapse. Exercise and therapy are very two important things I need to do, and then the ibogaine counselling every Sunday which was on skype, I attended a session yesterday, it was quite helpful so I think if I have these things my chance of relapse are probably five, ten percent.
Q 04:50 How do you feel about your future?
I feed my future is going to be great in the sense that I feel that if this works, you know, it will be very positive and I’m looking forward to having a very clean, clear and good future so that’s something that ibogaine is really, you know, very positive.
Q 05:19 Any final thoughts?
I just want to say to anyone else who hasn’t done it, you should definitely try, it will, you know,
it can change your life, and I hope it changes mine.
Disclaimer: Ibogaine is a potentially illegal substance (often sits in a grey area of the law), and we do not encourage or condone the use of this substance where it is against the law. However, we accept that illegal drug use occurs, and believe that offering responsible harm reduction information and solutions is imperative to keeping people safe. For that reason, we share client testimonials, post treatment with Tabula Rasa Retreat, to show that there are ‘other ways’ to tackle addiction and spiritual malaise. We consider ibogaine as a very useful ‘tool’ in the recovery toolbox. Ibogaine is a safe option, if used responsibly, and where strict safety protocols are followed.
